I had not seen it among my bookmarks, but now I do see it.
It sometimes works.
So I'm wrong that there is no method for requesting to see the file operations
window. However, the method is not reliable.

I'm doing an SSD-to-SSD copy, which is slowing the system a lot.
Echoing of this text within the web browser is often many characters
behind what I'm typing. I have plenty of unused RAM and cores, so the
window display may be getting affected by a system bottleneck.

Title:
File copy progress window invisible in Launcher and Workspaces

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Begin a copy of 10,000 files through Nautilus, and you'll get a popup
  progress window.

If that window becomes hidden, that progress window can not be
unhidden, because it is not visible in the Launcher and in Workspaces.

  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  Nautilus 3.4.2
