Please test this on a 12.04 Live CD. There has been important changes in
the handling of 3G modems since 10.04; so it's likely the issues have
since been fixed.

Title:

service"; wvdial works -- Vertex VW100 series CDMA EV-DO Rev.A

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

I'm trying to get to work Vertex Wireless Co., Ltd. VW100 series CDMA
EV-DO Rev.A USB modem on Ubuntu 9.10 with NM. I can successfully
connect using 'wvdial', and also using NM-0.7.1 on different computer,
but on Ubuntu 9.10 with NM it doesn't work, not even with latest trunk
build (0.8~rc1-0ubuntu1~nmt1~karmic). It looks like it is a problem
  with modem-manager.
