Triaged/Wishlist, it's mostly just a matter of someone spending some
time to implement this in NM.
As a workaround, you might be able to save the "Auto" device created,
keep it Autoconnect but in Routes check "Use this device only for the
resources on its network", so that it won't get the default gateway (and
thus not send internet traffic over the phone).

Title:
Please provide a way to prevent NM from configuring particular devices
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Binary package hint: network-manager
When i connect my phone(HTC desire) network manager auto connects to
internet through the phone.
This i behavior is not great since not all people have unlimited data
on their accounts. I have 5Gb / month and i dont want to waste it on
background services when all I want to do is charge my phone. Most (if
not all) new phones will use usb for charging and to always
autoconnect when plugged into computer is hardly perfect.
Steps to reproduce
1. Connect phone to computer
