Launcher fails to adapt its height when monitor changes after login

Bug description:
When I connect an external monitor (with higher resolution) to my laptop
after booting up only with the internal screen, the launcher fails to grow to
the new height. I attached a screenshot showing the problem. I have my system
configured to use only the external monitor when it's present and turn off the
internal laptop screen. If I change the monitor's resolution afterwards the
launcher fits the new height perfectly.
This is an Asus Eee PC1000h running Ubuntu 11.10 installed fresh with all the
latest updates and Unity 4.22. The internal screen resolution is 1024x600 and
the external one is 1400x1050.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Start Ubuntu without any external monitor connected
2) Login
3) Connect an external monitor with higher resolution than the internal one
Expected result:
- Unity launcher changes its height to fit the new vertical resolution
Actual result:
- Unity launcher maintains its height as if the screen resolution hadn't
change
