HUD: key presses between hitting ALT to access the hud and the UI
actually appearing are lost

Bug description:
When I hit ALT to access the HUD and then start typing the search
term, any keys I hit before the UI portion is rendered are lost
completely. They neither appear in the original application nor in
the search box. It would be highly desirable for them to end up in
the search term.
