yes, i can also confirm this, same problem here after upgrading from precise to quantal. your solution works fine, i did not even have to reboot: deleting /var/lib/AccountsService/users/<login> and killing the accounts-daemon (/usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon) is enough.
there was no hint in the logs and i could only fix it after reading your post, so thanks very much. it would probably be very helpful if the developers could add a log message in this case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1056833 Title: lightdm failed to log in my user after upgrade to Quantal Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading to Quantal Beta I was initially unable to log in to my user account with lightdm. Guest worked, as did a test account which I created. I think what fixed it was deleting /var/lib/AccountsService/users/michael, which had ubuntu-2d as default session, and rebooting. (Tested various other things unsuccessfully, including temporarily removing * and .??* from my home directory.)
