Just docked my laptop and woke it up from sleep and it detected the two
monitors.
This was either fixed in the latest kernel or after I disabled polling
in drm_kms_helper:
echo N > /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll
I put it into /etc/rc.local to make it permanent.

Bug description:
After I updated today using Update-Manager I can no longer use my
secondary monitor which is connected via DisplayPort. This was a
problem a few months ago and it seems to have creeped back into
ubuntu? I used to use VGA while this was a problem and I have reverted
back to that workaround. The image is considerably worse so I hope
whatever broke the DisplayPort code gets reverted back.
