The requirement for GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object is a Nux requirement,
and therefore a requirement of Unity (unityshell plugin).
Compiz 0.9.8+ has the ability to use GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object, but it
does not make it a requirement like Nux/Unity does.
