My nautilus version is 3.4.2 and the icons i use are located in /usr/share/icons.
Please tell me if this works for you: 1. Create a link to a mounted hard drive (/mnt/Windows for me) 2. Place the link in a subfolder in your home directory (~/Devices for me) 3. Set an icon on the link using right-click/properties 4. Open the link then add it to places (using the places menu) 5. The device should appear in your places with the right icon 6. Open the terminal then type "killall nautilus" while nautilus is still open 7. Launch nautilus again The icon in the places should be the default folder icon, it will reappear if you click on it or if look in the folder containing the link. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043063 Title: Folder icons do not appear in the bookmarks in nautilus until the user opens them Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: Incomplete Status in Nautilus: New Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When for example we set a custom icon for a folder and then add this folder to the bookmarks, the folder in the left panel will have the default "folder" icon, if we click on it the icon is updated but if we kill nautilus and reopen it, the icon will be gone again.
