I've asked on #ubuntu-motu how to go about getting a SRU (stable release update) for this. Once we have a fix, we should subscribe ubuntu- sponsors to the bug and wait for someone to pick it up from there. As mentioned above, it would probably help to also get the opinion of someone from design.

Split pane using the F3 key. Click on an empty area on any pane. Both panes look the same, and its difficult (if not impossible) to know which panel is the active one. If you have a folder or a file selected, you can use the selection indicator to get a clue, but even in this situation you can miss it and operate on the wrong file/folder.
