This sounds to me like the DPMS state bug. Presuming fixed, please do
retest on the current stack (raring).

Title:
[g35] On a dual head setup one display or the other never comes back
  on after power-save

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

Some times after the displays have been put in dpms power-save mode
and the machine is woken up again, one display or the other will
  refuse to come back on.

Changing to a different mode on the affected display using the display
settings applet or xrandr seems to make it up though.

I've disabled DPMS via xorg.conf, that seems to have kept the problem
at bay, but that also keeps the displays from going to sleep.
