Why is this being discussed on ubuntu's bug tracker, instead of
wayland's, or the wayland mailing list. Or even the wayland IRC
channel. You're both often in there.

min2: Using "scalable vector graphics" just implies using a non-raster
graphics format. It does not require dealing with pointer scaling
different than the existing format.

Mouse cursors should be vector graphics

Bug description:
In a modern system the mouse cursors should be some kind of scalable
  vector graphics.

This will become increasingly important with upcoming new high resolution
screen panels that allows for higher pixel density.
Other systems are already moving in this direction with vector graphics for
mouse cursors.

Currently mouse cursors often come in several variants such as
Chameleon-White-Large, Chameleon-White-Regular, and Chameleon-White-Small.
Vector graphics could unify this to just one variant that is scalable to
arbitrary size and provide more flexibility.
This will also be more important as Ubuntu expands to other devices such as
on 10-inch tablets and 52-inch TVs.
