Fixed in LightDM 0.9.8 - if the default session or the session
configured for the user does not exist then the GTK greeter just selects
the first available session.

Bug description:
  Hey,

there is no code right now for handling non-existing session. In
Debian we set user-session=xfce by default, but some people might use
it without Xfce installed. In that case, LightDM shows a blank item in
the session menu. If the user logs in, it still tries to start the
session, fails and goes back to the greeter.

It's related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/818864 but not
  exactly the same thing.
