Title:
Unity graphics corruption, flicker, black window, and lockup - with
nouveau driver for nvidia nvs290 card

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Similar symptoms to #1071072, #728423 and related.

Fresh install of 12.10 with initial install updates, nouveau driver, with
nvidia nvs290 card. Major corruption leading to graphics system freeze. Hit
alt-tab to switch between apps. Windows flicker, main window area of apps turn
black, icons and dash darken or go fully transparent, menu separates from title
bar, title bars split in to two parts. Apps switch back and forth, almost as
if I were holding the alt-tab, only much faster.
First few times system recovers and seems normal after few seconds. But it
progressively takes longer and longer to recover until graphical system finally
hangs. Alt-F1 to terminal to reboot machine.
Tried killing apps that were flickering. top and ps reported app was no
longer running, but the graphics were still on the screen and flipping in and
out, updating status bar in app every few seconds (firefox - status was trying
to download my last click).
Was able to dump dmesg and ps output. Attaching dmesg dump.
top didn't report any app taking more that what seemed to be normal amount of
memory.

dmesg dump starting at 66589.197440 is location of start of a problem
  when I hit alt-tab
