Title:
Screen lockup when screen is locked and laptop lid is closed for an
  extend period of time

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I currently have my laptop set up to automatically lock my screen
whenever I close my laptop lid, but I suppose this could still occur
if the screen is manually locked and the lid is subsequently closed.
Whenever I leave my laptop in the aforementioned state for a period of
time (the two times this has happened have been at least an hour), I
come back to my laptop, open the lid and find my screen appearing to
be unlocked. I look a the clock and notice that it is frozen at around
the time I left (or maybe sometime after, my memory's a little fuzzy).
I have no choice but to kill the X server using the handy
  Ctrl+Alt+Backspace shortcut.

I tried to do a bit of troubleshooting. I set my power settings to cut
off the display after 1 minute. I locked my screen, closed my lid, and
waited for a few minutes. I opened it up to find what I expected, the
unlock screen. So either it is not leaving the lid down for more than
the Power Manager settings, or it takes longer for that combo to wreck
  havoc.

Also note that my screen saver was not changed, i.e. is set to "Blank
  Screen."

I apologize for the long winded bug report.

When this occurs again, I will follow the directions at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze and post the acquired
  information here.
