I am also facing problem in dell xps l502x on ubuntu 12.10. subwoofer volume is very high so getting ticking sound from woofer. is there any way to lower the woofer volume.

The sound quality is pretty poor in comparison to the quality when I had Windows 7. The sound via the audio jack is just fine.
