The drag-to-maximize feature was rewritten for Unity 7 and release in
Ubuntu 13.04. I can not reproduce this problem with newer versions of
the Unity stack.

Marking the bug as fixed. If a similar problem occurs, please report it
as a new bug.

Title:
Dragging maximized window to another display maximized

Status in Unity:
  Fix Released
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I am dragging a maximized window on screen 1 to screen 2 and there
drop it at the top edge so it should end up maximized there.

The problem is that when I drop it it ends up non-maximized on the
  originating screen.

It does work as expected if the window is not maximized to start with, then
it ends up maximized on the second screen.
Also if the window is maximized and I drop it on the other screen without
holding to the top edge it ends up on the correct screen non-maximized as
expected.

My workaround so far is to drag the maximized window on screen 1 onto
screen 2 but not holding it at the top edge. Then I drop it and grab
it again and drag it towards the top so I get the maximized effect
  when finally dropped.
