Title:
New gnome-volume-control doesn't like having Pulse disabled?

Status in GNOME Media Utilities:
  Invalid
Status in “gnome-media” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-media

I don't get it. Why does pulseaudio need to be running in order for
the gnome-volume-control window ('open volume control' not
  'preferences') to show up?

  Isn't alsa good enough?
