I also have a freezing problem with Ubuntu 13.10 Here is what I posted this morning in the "General" forum:
Hello, my system randomly freezes when I login with the Ubuntu (default) desktop but does not when I use the Gnome flashback (no effects) desktop. I haven't login using the regular Gnome flashback desktop. The freezes happen doing simple things.
