a.h(), this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. When I move the the mouse, I can see a blue rectangle moving around the screen, this is only visible when the corrupted areas are showing. If I try switching to the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F1) it sometimes switches directly, and properly, but then also starts the above cycle, with the terminal then showing more towards the centre of the screen when the corrupted areas are showing. (Sometimes it directly shows the corrupted terminal, without showing it the way it should be first.) Some error lines as follows can be seen on the terminal (A full extract from kern.log from resume is attached with all the messages): Jun 16 21:27:44 andrew-desktop1-ubuntu kernel: [ 126.360077] [drm:radeon_fence_wait] *ERROR* fence(ffff8800377e2080:0x00005D11) 510ms timeout going to reset GPU Jun 16 21:27:44 andrew-desktop1-ubuntu kernel: [ 126.360089] radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU softreset It is possible to control the system, although difficult due to the switching, from the terminal, pressing the power button however starts a shutdown. This then brings back the splash screen (which shows properly), after which the system switches off. Expected result: The splash screen is shown, then Xorg is restored with the unlock dialog showing. Note: When I do a suspend to ram, immediately before switching to the unlock dialog I get a fully corrupted screen, similarly to when resuming from hibernation, for a moment. Note2: When using fglrx hibernate and suspend work fine, however the splash screen is only at 640x480 resolution, and some slight corruption is shown on screen before showing the unlock dialog. (The fglrx driver also seems to make my system slower.) Driver details: 'apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-ati' xserver-xorg-video-ati: Installed: 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 Candidate: 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status As far as I can tell this is a bug in the radeon driver, since it doesn't occur with the proprietary driver. - I will get photos and videos up tomorrow (time-permitting) detailing what happens.
