Title:
X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When doing certain tasks, X freezes when nouveau is in use. (nvidia is
not used, I know that because switching to a tty is fast and the tty
has the right font size). This happens maybe one or two times a day
when doing certain tasks. This time I changed the display settings in
xfce4-display settings: rotation from 'normal' to 'left' (just to try
what would happen). Also starting Opera sometimes causes the system to
freeze (Opera uses hardware acceleration AFAIK). It also happens
sometimes that revealing the launcher in Unity causes the system to
  freeze.

  Symptoms:
   * Mouse still works, but clicking has no effect
   * keyboard doesn't work, not even the Caps Lock key. Switching to another
TTY thus doen't work
   * I can log in via SSH, although that is very slow. This way I have
collected the bug information (via apport-cli -f)
   * It happens in both Unity and XFCE with Compiz enabled.
