Title:
Rhythmbox unable to play while importing music

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a 4,500 song music library served from an Ubuntu Samba server.
It takes about 5-10 minutes during the intial import. During this
  time, Rhythmbox cannot play anything.

It presents itself like it is ready to play some of the songs once
imported, but what you hear is 2-3 seconds of audio, followed by 2-5
seconds of crackly, popping audio, followed by silence. The timebar
continues to progress on the currently playing song, but there is no
  sound.

I was able to replicate this on my system 3 times.

The net result is that I thought I had audio problems with my system.
I am sure that this would really throw off a new user of Ubuntu.

  Running 12.04 32bit beta 2.
