I have a similar card ( GK208M [GeForce GT 740M] and a similar problem. I could not install the proprietary driver automatically. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 Gnome.
I solved it by installing something called Bumblebee, following these instructions: http://www.themukt.com/2014/06/13/howto-install-nvidia-331-bumblebee-optimus-cards-ubuntu I had to apt-get install virtualgl to run the tests at the end. Also, the package nvidia-settings-331 seems to have gone away so I didn't install it. There's some Ubuntu docs on this here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee Basically it uses the NVidia card to render things that are displayed by the Intel card. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-319 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1269232 Title: NVIDIA Corporation GK208M [GeForce GT 730M] [10de:1290] does not supported Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers-319” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers-319-updates” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On system with 12.04.3, by using jockey-gtk (Additional Drivers), it recommends user to install nvidia_319, however both nvidia_319 and nvidia_319_updates won't work.
