This bug is still present with the latest Ubuntu 14.04. For me nomodeset
does not allow the screen to be set to its native resolution of
1280x800. Can we please reopen the bug?

  After waking up the notebook from suspend-to-ram, the display
  flickers. Restarting X doesn't help. This problem doesn't occur when
  performing suspend-to-disk.
