That particular issue has been resolved Ubuntu with that change https://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=2e1ac987268cd57349cdc2763d2442b532ce3c49 Now toggling the settings is changing the stored preference as well. We are going to look at landing this change in Ubuntu next cycle ** Changed in: file-roller (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497545 Title: archive manager changes file manager default settings to show hidden files Status in file-roller package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: Ubuntu 15.04 file-roller 3.14.2-0ubuntu5 Reproduce: Open an archive and click extract. In the directory browser press Ctrl+H to show hidden folders. Cancel and close archive manager. Expected: This should have no effect on the file browser in general after archive manager is closed. Actual outcome: Hidden files and folders are shown by default every time a file manager window is opened. Workaround: Same as reproduce, this time press Ctrl+H to hide hidden folders. The setting applies to file manager.
