To reproduce
Start Simple Scan from Applications/Graphics.
Starting Simple Scan appears in tray, then vanishes
Process monitory shows Simple Scan running, alternating states between
sleep_on_page and sleep_on_page_killable
Memory used by Simple Scan creeps up to 4GB and overall system response
becomes *very* sluggish.
Kill Simple Scan.
