Let's handle the gdebi issue in LP: #1756238

That only leaves your vte.sh issue.

Khurshid, it would help us handle this bug if you could start with a
clean install and then try to reproduce this bug. Then reply here with a
list of the steps you took to reproduce the bug. (Upgrading from 17.10
could be one of the steps if needed.)

Bug description:
  After upgrading libvte to latest release, When installing deb with
  gdebi, it shows following error:

  unable to read filedescriptor flags for <package status and progress
  file descriptor.

  Running gnome-terminal also gives "could not found
  /etc/profile.d/vte.sh"

  Downgrading to 0.50.2 fixes the issue.
