Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2010 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 513399
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

thunderbird message selection loses focus
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Binary package hint: thunderbird
IMAP account. If new mail arrives while I am viewing one in the
preview pane, the message selector loses focus, though the message
remains displayed.
This also happens if I switch from folder to folder, and from mail to
lightning calendar and back.
When this happens, I can't work with the message (reply, delete, etc.)
until I find and select it again.
