Hello Stephen,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2011 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 774742
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.
Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: thunderbird
I installed this package yesterday night via the software centre. I
must have hit the install button twice, because sc attempted to
install two instances of thunderbird at the same time. Then it
crashed. When I got it back, thunderbird came up as installed, yet
when I tried to start it, this morning, via the "applications"
launcher, zilch. Nothing. Starting from the terminal returned: "bash:
/usr/bin/thunderbird: cannot execute binary file". I then tried to re-
install via synaptic, which failed, but generated this bug report. I
have now completely removed thunderbird, or attempted to: when I did
this synaptic reported that two folders were "not empty" and would not
be removed. I am still interested in having this package, any advice
on how it might be successfully installed will e gratefully received.
I hope these witterings are helpful to someone.
