Hello Felix,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2011 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 865232
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.
Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

Title:
Thunderbird shows a higher number of messages in the notification "You
have xxxx new messages" instead of the number of new mails
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
There are 1359 messages in my imap inbox. It is the only Account. My
Inbox has 4 Subfolders. I have 2 unread messages in my inbox.
When I receive a new mail, a unity notification appears that says that
i have 1315 new messages although i have now only 3 unread messages in
my inbox.
The paradox: When I let the mail unreaded and get another new mail
(#4) it reports about 1315 new messages again (not 1316 as expected).
I don't know where the number of 1315 comes from. But I think it could
be different from case to case.
Thunderbird-Version: 7.0.1 (latest version in oneiric at the moment)
I hope this report helps.
Greets Felix
