Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.  
You made this bug report in 2013 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu 
and Thunderbird since then. 

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the 
ticket? 
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to 
this bug? 
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 1241153
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this 
particular issue.

  Unable to view menu strip

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Clean install of Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 with ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 and
  ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-next PPAs added.

  Installed Thunderbird and configured account.

  Unable to view File, Edit, View etc menus.
  Restart application. Still unable to view.
  Tried Global Application menu titled Thunderbird Mail. Only option is to Quit.
  Hit ALT+F Menu strip appears.

  Removing focus from menubar hides it again. Not accessible via mouse.
