I first experienced the bug in maverick. The bug still exists in natty and oneiric though it appears to be partially fixed - the incorrect characters still exist, the occasional black instead of orange selection bar still exists, but selecting text no longer blanks out sections of text. Note that except for the incorrect characters, the buggy behavior is not consistent and I have to swipe my cursor several times to make it happen (the screenshot earlier is a particularly bad case.)
