Firstly, please remove/disable all gnome-shell extensions as extensions are a common cause of bugs and crashes. You have a lot of them:
b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['user-theme@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'window-list@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'windowsNavigator@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'workspace-indicator@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'drive-menu@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'places-menu@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'screenshot-window-sizer@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'launch-new-instance@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'native-window-placement@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'auto-move-windows@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'alternate-tab@gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', '[email protected]', '[email protected]', 'applications-overview- tooltip@RaphaelRochet', '[email protected]', '[email protected]', '[email protected]', '[email protected]', 'suspend-button@laserb', 'workspace- [email protected]', 'update- [email protected]', '[email protected]']" If the problem persists without extensions then... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799787 Title: Dash to Dock behaves strangely then gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: These problems have been seen several times over the past week and are partly covered by other bug reports so please mark as a duplicate if appropriate but I'm creating this report as I feel that all issues are connected. The Dash to Dock extension at times: is seen on the lock screen changes size when hovering over a program launcher icon loses it transparency The last time I saw an issue was immediately after running an update in a terminal window. As soon as the process finished I noticed the Dash to Dock had changed appearance. As I couldn't remember how I fixed it previously I attempted to restart gnome-shell by Alt F2 > r and enter. The transparency issue couldn't be rectified by changing the extension's settings. gnome-shell didn't restart gracefully as it should and gave the appearance of a crash as only program windows were visible, the remaining parts of the screen were black. I was eventually taken back to the login screen so had to restart all of the previously running programs. This last issue of not being able to restart gnome-shell has been seen on a number of occasions over the last few days, in fact twice today and the last after a recent reboot with hardly any activity being carried out on the PC except to start a few programs using the Dock and running the update (which just found an update to Google Chrome).
