I just noticed that the bug is not present when the file being searched
is placed directly under home-directory. If I move the same file under,
let's say, "Documents", the bug appears again.

Title:
"Files" will not open from GNOME Shell search results

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  1. Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
  2. gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.4, nautilus 1:3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.4
  3. I expect GNOME Shell search results for files open in Nautilus when the
"Files" icon and "x more" is clicked.
  4. Nautilus opens but reports that "No Results Found".

If I deselect the search option in the just opened Nautilus window and
redo the search directly from Nautilus, I get expected results.
