The thing is that if I open the gnome-control-center, go to the Region & Language section, select Language, click the more option at the bottom, do a search for "Japanese", select "Japanese" and then finally press "Done" and install everything it prompts me to. No matter what I do I do not get the very important "Japanese (Anthy)" input source listed in the input sources section and thus cannot really properly type in Japanese. A workaround is to first install the language-selector-gnome and to install Japanese through there and then uninstall that (because for some reason until that is done so the Anthy option still isn't available) and you have the "Japanese (Anthy)" input source in the list in the gnome-control-center. So judging by this I would say that probably the language-selector- gnome installs all necessary packages for Japanese, but the standard means through the gnome-control-center do not. Or some like that for one method works and the other does not.
