Confirm (in KVM machines) that Unity works fine from gdm3 under Impish,
but a fresh VM of Jammy doesn't work with either lightdm or gdm for me.

I get to see a quick glimpse of the Unity desktop, then this fullscreen
splash error shows up

"Oh no! Something has gone wrong.

A problem has occurred and the system can't recover.
All extensions have been disabled as a precaution."

Since it refers to extensions, I presume this is a part of GNOME Shell.

However... if you use the keyboard shortcut to left-split the window
(ctrl-super-left) ... you can see the Unity desktop is running. (I first
tried ctrl-alt-t to summon a terminal above it but the window is always-
on-top, I saw it lose focus though.)

Title:
Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Unity7 seems to crash on 22.04 when logging in after installing Ubuntu
(it works fine in the live session). I then tried installing the 21.10
gnome-session package on 22.04 and Unity7 then worked perfectly fine.
Also, XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is set to GNOME instead of
"Unity:7;Unity:ubuntu" with the Jammy version, which is really
unexpected and might be causing these issues.

seb128 and 3vin1o: Neither I nor Khurshid are sure about what has
changed between the two packages, and I think this is a critical bug.
