I've not been able to reproduce it lock/unlock, but I do reloading the
shell.

In such case, I bisected it to this commit:

appindicator/commit/6fa6ee276692e517148c2cba8764114706a20d8f

Can someone please check if applying it (can just edit /usr/share/gnome-
shell/extensions/[email protected]/appIndicator.js) fixes
the issue for you?
