from statusNotifierWatcher.js in appindicator eliminated the memory
usage.

Ubuntu's extensions have a sizeable impact on memory usage.
With the default Ubuntu extensions, gnome-shell's RSS is around 330MB.
With no extensions, gnome-shell's RSS is around 230MB.
Rough breakdown to within 10MB:

+60MB from [email protected]
<10MB from [email protected]
