* Add back dependency on wsdd, both on Debian and Ubuntu (LP: #2081735) -- Alessandro Astone <[email protected]> Mon, 23 Sep 2024 10:04:03 -0400 ** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2081735 Title: [FFE] Enable wsdd backend by default Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: The wsdd backend in gvfs allows Nautilus, and potentially other clients, to discover Windows 10+ network folders (SMB), using the WS- Discovery protocol. gvfs implements this feature by using `wsdd` if it is installed. This change thus adds wsdd as a Recommended dependency. wsdd itself received a MIR ack, including a security review. It is confined by AppArmor by default. Adding this dependency would not impact other parts of the system, other than exposing an additional functionality in Nautilus. I've verified that with wsdd installed Nautilus sees the Windows 11 host on my local network. The actual browsing of the SMB share is not part of the wsdd functionality, who's role is merely that of discovery.
