cursor position & event inconsistency

Bug description:
I moved the cursor after reading a news for about 5 seconds, then the newly
selected news got marked as read.
I tried it a few more times. It seems to me that thunderbird doesn't remember
exactly which news the focus was on and marks the message under the cursor
shortly after the timer event occurs.
That's obviously wrong.
(I didn't test it with e-mail, only with news.)
Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 on Ubuntu 8.04.1 i386.
