Seems to be fixed in TB 8 (maybe earlier). Neither Thunderbird 2, nor Ubuntu 8.04 LTS are supported anymore. So the bug should be closed!

I tried it a few more times. It seems to me that thunderbird doesn't remember exactly which news the focus was on and marks the message under the cursor shortly after the timer event occurs. That's obviously wrong. (I didn't test it with e-mail, only with news.) Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 on Ubuntu 8.04.1 i386. Don't hesitate to ask any questions, or to ask for specific tests. Best regards.
