I've talked to senior executives at companies like Adobe and Autodesk about this question. My understanding is that lack of market demand is the deal killer, period. I had one CEO of a large software company say to me (after I made my pitch about how easy Wine would make porting his software): "Jeremy, even if you gave me a CD with a perfect version of my software for Linux, I would stick it on a shelf. The current market opportunity doesn't justify any of the costs a new platform would demand; development is the least of it." Just my $0.02. <bias alert> Of course, this then reinforces my belief that Wine is the best short term way to solve this problem. We can run these applications *now* while we need them. This lets us grow the DTL market today. Once the market is established, then the problem will solve itself as the ISVs respond to the market demand. </bias> Cheers, Jeremy _______________________________________________ Desktop_architects mailing list [email protected] https://lists.osdl.org/mailman/listinfo/desktop_architects
