About XSetScreenSaver: I don't remember what, but there were issues.
The man page reads like there was never support for application space
screen servers.
I'm sure Jim remembers this better than I do.
Well, I wrote and maintained the IRIX "stars" screen saver for a lot
of years, which uses the X screen saver interface to provide an
application-space screen saver. The application just listened for
events and did the screen saver thing when it was told to...
