My understanding was that the instructions and schema were having
issues and targeting old version of Solr and old non-managed approach.

Would bringing it up to date (and yes dealing with bugs) be of value?

It is your call, of course. I was just trying to offer additional
expertise/time in "teach others to fish" just in case that was a
missing element.
