Hi all!

For Firefox OS 1.2, the accessibility team planned to provide a feature for
developers to be able to test their web apps for accessibility. They will be
able to test their web apps with the built-in screen reader.

So far the theory. Most of the stuff also is already in B2G, most importantly
the Pico text-to-speech engine, which was put into Gonk a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately, due to the tree closures around merge day, we were not able to
land a final piece of that system[1] in time for Aurora 26. This speech service
has been tested by me for the past couple of weeks, and is something only
needed, and built, on Firefox OS.

In addition, one more small fix[2] for our JavaScript screen reader (code-named
AccessFu) is needed to be up-lifted in concert with the above change, and the
related remaining bug fixes in Gaia.

This is a heads-up so you are aware that accessibility needs these uplifts to
complete this 1.2 feature. The alternative would be a major setback until the
next Firefox OS release. And we came this close! :) Demand from the
accessibility-related web developer community is also high for Firefox OS
accessibility, so we do need to get started on this.

Thanks!
Marco
