Well put I also much preferred the shift keyboard, I have filed a bug as one of personal pet peeves (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=965211) so you may want to track that, the keyboard time have put a lot of effort into replaceable keyboards and thats the likely solution here.
