Or is the idea to turn on the LED to indicate pending notifications?

Yes, exactly. I know some android phones even have a multicolor LED
where you get different colors: So just looking at your phone you can

This sounds really useful. Colors could either rotate (e.g. missed call
and social notification), or the "most important" (probably just an
ordered list with "missed call" at or near the top) color wins.

FWIW as an anecdote about my personal experience, every time that I install one of these new apps on Android I get confused as to what color is used for which app, especially if I ave multiple outstanding notifications.

It sounds very useful to have such a feature. Sometimes I don't have the time to check the notifications right away, so the screen turns off, it would be nice to have the LED reminding me I still have some 'unread' notifications.

I'm not sure we should give apps the ability to specify a color pattern for the LED light, as Ehsan said, it might confuse the user. I personally wouldn't like to have a LED flashing in different colors, alert colors that might change even when the app wants to just update its style, it is confusing.

Cheers,
Robert
