For those interested, the problems in all cases were (probably) the
result of IMAP clients that didn't understand gmail's folder model (or
XLIST or LIST with special-use flags) having created a false/redundant
sent mail folder.  Because of our limited screen real-estate and the
UI's sorting behaviour (we don't migrate sent folders to the root,
currently, just prioritize them within their hierarchy level), there's a
good chance the first sent folder a user sees is the false one, which
they would reasonably assume is the only sent folder.
