Ralph, there's also a manual update procedure 
(https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Phone_guide/ZTE_OPEN_C) which 
just replaces boot.img with a rooted one if the user can use adb and fastboot. 
That page explains how to test boot.img without actually flashing it.
