*One idea:*
We've been discussing how we can unlock the potential of existing Web
content to provide immediate user value (in conjunction with our longer
term initiatives to move the overall market in a certain direction).
Right now mobile users are faced with:
- non-optimized (to screen size/input method) Web content
- Web content that does not yet make use of offline capabilities
- and more

The project could be to determine whether or not it is possible to
heuristically determine when to put the user into a reader mode (or other)
type of experience and experiment with the automatic caching of content as
a way of improving the overall experience of the Web on mobile.
Yes, this could "break the Web", but the results may give us some good
insights into how we can add value to users of the mobile Web to overcome
the sometimes poor experiences they get today.
We may look at doing some of this in the next year, but an academic take on
this may uncover additional opportunities.
